The UGMLC is a collaborative research initiative, promoting translational lung research. Researchers and clinicians systematically transform cutting edge laboratory research into clinical applications for the benefit of patient health and medical care. The successful exchange of interdisciplinary expertise is stimulated by the proximity of laboratories, modern equipment, and patient care facilities. Additionally, clinical medicine and pulmonary research are complemented with a strong emphasis on education in respiratory medicine and molecular biology. |

The "Excellence Cluster Cardio-Pulmonary System" of the universities of Giessen and Frankfurt and the Max-Planck-Institute (MPI) for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim constitutes a unique translational research center, dedicated to combine cutting edge basic sciences with preclinical and clinical studies in the field of vascular and parenchymal heart and lung diseases. Research is organized on different levels of complexity such as molecular signatures and target structures, cellular phenotypes, integrative - including developmental - biology, disease models and preclinical studies as well as clinical trials. |
